    Parachute during landing

    Parachute during landing

    1,550.00 - 1,950.00
This contact sheet is made of 30 photos of the parachute deployment during the spacecraft’s descent through the Martian atmosphere on Feb. 18, 2021.

Mars Perseverance Sol 16: Parachute Up-Look Camera B

NASA's Mars Perseverance rover acquired this image during its descent to Mars, using its Parachute Up-Look Camera B. This camera is mounted on the spacecraft's backshell and looks up at the parachute.

This image was acquired on Mar. 7, 2021 (Sol 16) at the local mean solar time of 17:28:25.

Ever wonder what it would be like to have an "astronaut's" view of landing on Mars? For the touchdown of the Perseverance rover, the engineering team added several cameras to document the entry, descent, and landing in even greater detail. The cameras recorded stunning views of the landing, capturing full-color video of the vehicle’s final descent to the Martian surface. The videos also provided data to help the team explore How does the parachute deploy and operate in the Martian atmosphere? The Mars 2020 entry, descent, and landing camera suite included the Parachute "up look" cameras, Mounted on the backshell, looking upward at parachute deployment and inflation. Three cameras were installed, two of which successfully recorded the parachute.

Beyond the Martian landscapes, we see above all enigmatic and poetic images , which lead us to think that these prints are the first contemporary works of art created by the AI of a robot on another planet more than 62 million kilometers away.

This is quite simply the first extraterrestrial artificial intelligence to create works of art on MARS

A disturbing and poetic immersion on this distant planet that has never been so close and familiar thanks to the technological prowess of human beings always in search of exploration.

      AI based intelligence

      making ART on MARS

Perseverance rover built by NASA (USA) and ESA (Europe) is walking/rolling on Mars since February 18th 2021.

This rover is equipped with 17 cameras that it used to film its descent on the red planet as well as its first steps on the Martian soil. Every day, it takes new pictures that are sent to Earth. Whether the photo is "successful" (instrument, rock; landscape) or not (black, gray, yellow or white square), the photos are published in the order in which they are received.

onMARS art prints are the result of the assembly of temporal series of photos taken by the rover, and respect the order in which these photos were captured, sent, received, processed and published here on Earth.

One could therefore say that the artist is the Rover itself. By triggering his shot, the Rover (the author) has in fact chosen the subject, the timing, the angle, the framing, the luminosity and the object of the photo. The only subjective (because human) artistic choice was to select a specific time series that will define the order of presentation of the photos in these magnificent prints.

Beyond the Martian landscapes, we see above all enigmatic and poetic images of parachutes unfurling like a flower in the process of blooming, shots of the earth, enigmatic scientific instruments, which lead us to think that these prints are the first contemporary works of art created by the AI of a robot on another planet more than 62 million kilometers away.

So those pictures are of the calibration targets of SHERLOC and PIXL. Of note the gray scale and the color versions are the same image, just read off the CCD differently.
