What is Space Art ?

"Space Art" refers to a form of artistic expression that reflects knowledge and interest in the universe.

Space Art encompasses many subjects with many styles and methods, both representational and subjective. Astronomical Art is only one part of the vast field. Space Art themes often depict humans in space, whether in historical, futuristic, or imagined contexts. Space Art subjects can be varied and not tightly constrained. These include images of space exploration and humanity's expansion in the Solar System, space hardware designs that allow space travel, and human research to explore distant worlds that may be home to life.

"Astronomical Art", a subset of Space Art, is a significant subset that draws inspiration from astronomical subjects and creates a scientifically based description of space.

Astronomical Art is largely inspired by the increasing amount of scientific knowledge and imagery about the physical universe. This imagery is often applied to deep space, as well as to solar system subjects. This mostly representational genre often uses related knowledge to start any results. Astronomical Art draws on the visual potential of the Solar System, moons, stars, galaxies, as well events that span vast time periods.

Style refers the individual artist's linear and painterly representations. These are defined in several interrelated factors, such as the elements or principles of artistic design. This includes how an artist depicts people or animals, arranges patterns, images or manipulates forms. Some artists develop their own style over time, particularly with the help of modern technology.

Style TERMS include Descriptive Reality, Hardware Art and Space Sculpture.

Space Art refers to art that is inspired by outer space knowledge and ideas. It can be used as both a source for inspiration or as a way to promote space travel and exploration. Whatever the style, the artist aims to communicate ideas related to space. He or she also appreciates the infinite number of concepts that space can inspire.

Many visual inspirations can be found in the Cosmos, which our ability to collect and propagate has allowed us to spread mass culture. Images like the Earth-rise above the Moon from Apollo 8 and the Pale Blue Dot’ returned to Earth by Voyager 1 and the Pillars Of Creation' from Hubble have been widely shared and incorporated into popular cultural.

These images offer modern viewers fresh perspectives that allow them to relive the spiritual awe of the cathedrals' great murals. There are artists emerging who can express the meaning of space and dare to predict what sights might reward future explorations.

"Astronomical Art" is a result of Rudaux's artistic standards and those of Bonestell, Pesek and other artists of that era. This is a form of space art that focuses on visual impressions of exotic and alien places in the Cosmos.

An Astronomical artist should be able to see why the sky, lighting, color, and chosen landscape settings appear the way they do. Also, how drastic changes in one condition could affect the scene, which may also be possible on other worlds. A good understanding of science, weather and geography is necessary for Astronomy to understand the heavens. Astronomy-related knowledge is particularly important in preparing for the portrayals. These artists contribute a significant aspect to what can be called Space Art, thanks to their ability of visualizing exotic realities.

Space Art is an expressive, more loosely defined and subjective term. Its scope is 'nebulously constrained'. Although it might be possible to identify work as being associated with the subject, in the end it is the work of an artist trying communicate subjective expressions through their work.

Artists will be able to express themselves in zero gravity conditions if and when they are able to do so as part of the hopeful migration of Humanity beyond Earth. While such opportunities are still in the future, artists have made early attempts to place art objects in space with sculpture and paintings. Artists will continue to evolve media and make new discoveries, so they will be able to use new tools to express their creativity with increasing inspiration.

DESCRIPTIVE (aka "Rocks and Balls")

Descriptive Realalism is a style in Space Art. It was influenced by the artistic standards of Chelsey Bonestell and Lucien Rudaux. Its primary goal is to provide a visual representation of distant places in space.

COSMIC PRESSIONISM, also known as "Swirly art"

Space Artworks in Cosmic Expressionism are similar to those done in the POST era. They use color, form, and shape to convey the artist's impression of the subject matter. While technically precise and detailed, they still adhere to the general principles of art. Although the subject matter is looser, it still clearly reflects space. Both Cosmic Expressionism or Swirly Art describe the same artistic style used by the artist to create visual examples of astronomical and space art.

HARDWARE-ART (aka "Nuts and Bolts") Hardware Art is similar to Descriptive Realism, but it focuses on the details of the hardware used in spaceships, probes and other equipment. The hardware depicted in these images can range from a "portrait" of an existing piece of hardware to a creative, never-seen-or-thought-of, industrial design based upon sound scientific and engineering principles.

ASTRONOMICAL PHOTOGRAPHY

Astronomical photography can be described as a type of extraterrestrial photography that may also contain terrestrial elements. In this instance, a photograph of an astronomical subject has been deliberately "created" to emphasize aesthetic rather than scientific value. Technical know-how and aesthetic skills are required. However, individual exposures and processing can create a distinctive 'look' that is a significant part of astrophotography.

SPACE SCULPTURE.

Space sculptures are harder to identify. Space sculptures are more difficult to recognize because they are often more symbolic or abstract than others. Space Art's three-dimensional works are influenced by another style: space.

COSMIC ZOOLOGY.

Although the question of whether there is other life in this universe remains unanswered, artists can speculate and envision the possibilities. Cosmic Zoology depicts extraterrestrial life in extraterrestrial settings.

ART IN SPACES"

This term refers to another type of artistic creation or genre that makes use of the space environment and its conditions as part of its media. Examples include art made in free-fall, zero gravity sculpture, orbital plasma gaz displays and other similar media. But, space art should not be confused with "lights" that block the view of the heavens above the Earth's surface.

HARDSCIENCE FICTION SPACE

Hard Science Fiction Space Art uses scientific principles and tools to artistically envision what lies beyond our planet's past, present, future. Fictional stories and characters are embedded within a challenging science/engineering environment, not in fiction science. This is the original intent, as stated by master writers like Clarke, Heinlein and Niven.

VR SPACE IMAGE PRODUCTION. The creation of VR imagery is an extension to digital art. Therefore, the Space Art should include it in its definition set. Virtual reality is a visual medium. Some Space artists have already produced 360x360 graphical images. These digital art works are produced in larger files and must be viewed with specialized equipment such as VR goggles. VR is just starting to take off.
