Who is Nasa Mars Rover 2020 Perseverance ?

The Mars 2020 Perseverance Rover succefully landed on Mars 18th February 2021. It is now searching for signs of ancient biological life on Mars, which will help NASA in its quest to understand the planet's past habitability.

The rover has a drill to obtain rock and soil cores from the Martian surface, which will be stored in sealed tubes for pick-up by a future mission that will transport them back to Earth for detailed study. Perseverance is testing various technologies that may assist in the future human exploration of Mars.

A technology demonstration, the Mars Helicopter, Ingenuity, achieved a "Wright Brothers moment" by testing the first powered flight on the Red Planet while strapped to the rover's belly for the trip to Mars.

The Mars rover mission, as well as its many goals, has advanced robotic exploration and technology development in ways that will benefit future human missions to Mars. These include checking a way to generate oxygen on Mars, finding more resources, and adjusting landing techniques. We also want to see if the Martian weather will be dangerous for astronauts.

The Mars 2020 mission used a parachute, descent vehicle, and an approach called the "skycrane maneuver" to lower the rover onto Mars.

The precision of this landing technique enables the rover to land in a more precise location than previous rovers were capable of, making it possible to land a very large, hefty rover on Mars in a smaller space. This sophisticated navigation system helps the rover avoid dangerous terrain. It detects it and goes around it during its descent through the Martian atmosphere.
